OFFICIAL CALL
Party Canvass of Mathews County Republican Committee
of the Republican Party of Virginia
As Chairman of the Mathews County Republican Committee of the Republican Party,
and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the
Committee, I, Sonny Fauver, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at
the Piankatank Ruritan Club, 7138 Buckley Hall Road, Hudgins VA 23076, from
12:00 pm to 7:00 pm local time on Monday, May 22, 2023 for the following purposes:
Nominating Republican candidates for the offices of Mathews County Board of
Supervisors, Clerk of the Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioner of
Revenue, and Treasurer, to be voted for in the GENERAL election on November 7,
2023.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters of the Mathews County under the laws of the
Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are
in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in
open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of
its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the
Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or
primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
Filing Requirements
Candidates for the nomination or election at said canvass shall file a written statement
by mail or in person, to Byron Rauch at 1430 Knight Wood Road Diggs, Va 23045,
which must be received not later than 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023. Note:
Postmarks do not govern. If the number of persons that properly file for each office
does not exceed the number of persons to be elected to that office, then such properly
filed persons shall be declared nominated or elected as the case may be, and no canvass
will be held for such purpose. The candidate filing form is available as an attachment
to this call.
Registration Fee
There will be no registration fee to participate in this canvass.
