of the Republican Party of Virginia

As Chairman of the Scott County Republican Committee, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Terry Sivert, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at Gate City Middle School, 170 Harry Fry Drive, Gate City, VA 24251, from 12:00PM to 7:00PM local time on May 20th, 2023 for the following purposes:

Nominating a Republican candidate for:

Scott County Commonwealth Attorney

Scott County Circuit Court Clerk

Scott County Sheriff

Scott County Commissioner of Revenue

Scott County Treasurer

Scott County Board of Supervisors – At Large Seat

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 1 Supervisor

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 2 Supervisor

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 3 Supervisor

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 4 Supervisor

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 5 Supervisor

Scott County Board of Supervisors – District 6 Supervisor

To be voted upon in the November 7, 2023 General Election.

Qualifications for Participation:

All legal and qualified voters of Scott County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its party canvass. Every Voter will be required to fill out and sign the information and pledge certification form.

Filing Requirements:

Candidates for election for: Commonwealth Attorney, Circuit Court Clerk, Sheriff, Commissioner of Revenue, Treasurer, Supervisor at Large, District 1 Supervisor, District 2 Supervisor, District 3 Supervisor, District 4 Supervisor, District 5 Supervisor, District 6 Supervisor, shall file a written statement by mail or announce verbally in person, Mail to: Terry Sivert, 131 Faith Drive, Gate City, VA 24251, or to Lynn Fansler, 359 Warm Springs Drive, Weber City, VA 24290. Which must be received not later than 6:00PM April, 13th, 2023 and accompanied by any fees required.  Postmarks shall not govern.

Candidacy filing fees are as follows:

Constitutional Offices: $750.00 filing fee.
Board of Supervisors: $100.00 filing fee.

Please make checks payable to the Scott County Republican Party.

Uncontested Offices/Cancellation of Party Canvass

If no more than one candidate properly files and is found to be qualified for election to any office to be voted upon at the Party Canvass, that candidate will be declared elected.  If there are no contested offices to be voted upon at the Party Canvass, then no Party Canvass will be held.

Registration Fees for Party Canvass
There will be NO registration fee to participate in this PARTY CANVASS, MAY 20, 2023.
