Virginia Republicans Are Taking Action to Protect Women’s Sports

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares’ investigation into Roanoke College has uncovered a disturbing but all-too-common reality: female student-athletes were denied equal accommodations, emotional support, and competitive fairness when a male athlete was allowed to compete on the women’s swim team—violating the Virginia Human Rights Act.

Miyares concluded the college’s policy inflicted “emotional, physical and dignitary harms” on the women and confirmed they are eligible to pursue financial damages for sex-based discrimination, according to Fox News.

This isn’t just a legal matter—it’s a cultural line Virginia Republicans will never cross.

Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and the entire Republican ticket are demanding accountability while pushing for lasting protections for women and girls. This includes:

  • Enacting strong, statewide policies to ensure that male athletes are not permitted to compete in women’s sports—a stance backed by sound science and basic common sense.
  • Standing firm on Title IX’s original intent, preserving single-sex athletic categories to protect competition and opportunity for female athletes.
  • Empowering parents and female athletes with clarity and guarantees that their safety, dignity, and rights in school sports are never compromised.

Women and girls deserve a level playing field—period. Under Republican leadership, Virginia will lead the nation in protecting fairness in sports, not abandoning it to radical left-wing ideology.

Virginians can trust GOP leadership to defend both the law and the female athletes who rely on it.
