Virginia Voters Want to Know: Where Is Hidin’ Ghazala Hashmi?

Radical Democrat Lt. Gov. nominee Ghazala “Hidin” Hashmi has refused to respond to Republican nominee John Reid’s challenge to 10 debates throughout the Commonwealth. Hashmi has also refused to offer a counter-proposal, begging the question – what is she afraid of, and why won’t she commit to debating publicly?

Here’s what Reid had to say on Fox News this week:

“I get up at 4:00 every morning and I roll over and look to see if there’s an e-mail from Senator Hashmi saying sure, I’ll do the 10 debates, or you know even a counter proposal. I hear nothing, and I don’t I don’t think Virginia is going to buy that. I think Virginians want to see the candidates for statewide office debate the issues.

My goal was to focus regionally so that we didn’t remain at the 50,000-foot level, so that we got down into the nitty gritty and different parts of the state. Virginia is a very different state if you’re in Northern Virginia, Southwest Virginia, Virginia Beach, Richmond – it’s a big place with a lot of different issues.

It’s incumbent upon me as a new person as an outsider to get out there and meet as many Virginia voters as possible and to talk about issues that everybody else is trying to dodge – I’m not dodging the issues.

The Republican Party of Virginia reiterates its call for Senator Hashmi to agree to publicly debate John Reid. Voters deserve to hear directly from their candidates for public office when they aren’t hiding behind a script.

The truth that Ghazala Hashmi is afraid to acknowledge is that she knows her far-left record and policy views are wildly out of step with everyday Virginians, and she is terrified of John Reid exposing that truth for the entire Commonwealth to see. Her refusal to debate is not just political cowardice—it’s open contempt for the voters she claims to represent.

Hashmi’s campaign strategy is clear: avoid the press, avoid the public, and above all—avoid John Reid. If she’s this evasive as a candidate, imagine how she’d govern. While John Reid travels the state meeting voters and tackling the real issues facing Virginia families, Hashmi is hiding behind tightly scripted talking points and hoping no one notices.

But voters are noticing. Virginians deserve answers—not silence—from someone who wants to be one heartbeat away from the Governor’s Mansion.
